Can Corgis Eat Cooked Eggs???

Updated: Aug 7, 2022

As long as they aren't allergic to it, most of the time a dog can and will eat anything without it doing much harm. However there are other things you have to watch out for when feeding your dog "human food" like eggs. My available corgis for sale are all accustomed to eating eggs as are all my adult Pembroke Corgis , American Corgis and Cardigan Corgis.

The quotations on "human food" are there because what your dog and you see as food can be very different. Dogs primary sense is smell, so to them if it smells similar to what they have eaten before it must be okay to eat. This can cause real big problems as there are plenty of things your dog should NOT eat that he will eat because he thinks it's the good food you've given to him before. (i.e. like the cap to a soda bottle that fell into some dip)

Another thing to watch out for would be if he TAKES the food from you. To a dog, the people and other animals they live with are consider part of their pack, if your dog starts stealing food from you, other family members, or guests, then they might think they are the leader and therefor can take whatever they want from whoever they want.  You should be the leader and  should always  be the one to eat first and the dog should always eat last. It may sound mean but it prevent other unwanted behaviors, like guarding of toys or food, or growling at or biting other people.

The last thing I would look out for is how much you give them. If you went to a vet and asked if you can feed your dog human food at all, 99% of the time they're going to say NO. This is because most people don't know what they should and shouldn't feed their dog and don't understand how the acceptable amount of whatever is being feed is different from dog to dog, breed to breed, pregnant v.s not pregnant etc. It's easier to tell a dog owner not to feed your dog any human food then it is to teach the owner what they can and can't give their dog. It also means if the owner makes a mistake and gives their dog something that sends it to the emergency room, its the owners own fault and the vet can't be held liable.

So, you can feed your dog eggs, but don't go overboard. Egg's are good for your dog to eat, they're high in protein and fat, good for coat health, plus more. Take into mind the size and activity of your dog, small size means smaller portions, larger size means maybe you can give a LITTLE extra. Also if you give them food make sure its after you have eaten and they know that, don't feed them before yourself and don't let them TAKE from you or anyone else. It has to be offered or put in his bowl.

Some dogs have food allergies and can be taught not to take anything off a plate, out of someones hands, or off the floor unless he gets an a-OK. You can repeat the phrase "your allergic" many times over and eventually they will figure out they won't get any of certain food you say it.

Eggs Are a great source of very digestible protein, riboflavin, and selenium...

For some dogs that are prone to digestive upset, eggs can give them a little protein boost. Adding eggs to your dog's food is a healthy treat. Make sure to use cooked whole egg, as raw egg whites can cause biotin deficiency.

Can Corgis Eat Cooked Eggs?

Wild dogs will scavenge eggs if they find nests, and a raw egg is sometimes suggested to help a dog with a poor coat. Cooking the egg doesn't change it's nutritional profile, just the structure of the proteins. You don't even need to shell the egg--you can just crush it a bit so the dog knows it's food, and the shells are a good source of protein.

There are a few vital dietary components that your dog must consume on a daily basis. Not feeding your dog these essentials can lead to poor health and obesity.

  1. Protein. Many manufacturers use vegetable proteins in their dog food—which are hard for dogs to digest. Find a dog food that contains mostly animal protein. Dogs need a minimum of 18% protein in their diet for maintenance when they are adults and 22% for reproduction and growth. Do not overfeed your dog; too much protein can lead to hyperactivity.

  2. Fat. Fats keep your dog's coat healthy and provide energy. Do not buy fat-free dog foods. Adult dogs need a minimum of 5% fat in their diet.

  3. Vitamins. A vitamin supplement will provide those nutrients above and beyond the minimum, which are required to meet his particular needs. Consult your veterinarian to see what vitamin types and amounts your dog needs.

  4. Water. Your dog's water needs depend on his activity level. Also, eating a lot of dry food will make your dog thirsty. A good rule of thumb to follow: give your pet at least one quart of water for every pound of dry food.

I have also found freezing the eggs and then tossing them out for the dogs gives them something to do for a while and a nice treat once thawed. Try is out and let me know how your dog likes them.
